1. Our commitment
AfroBiomics aims to provide an inclusive website that supports equitable access to its public scientific, training and company information.
Accessibility is treated as an ongoing part of design, content management, development and quality review.
2. Accessibility standard
Our current target is alignment with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, WCAG 2.2, Level AA.
This statement describes a target and ongoing improvement process. It is not a formal declaration that every page and third-party function has been independently audited or fully conforms to every WCAG 2.2 success criterion.
3. Current accessibility features
The website is designed to support:
- Semantic page regions, headings, lists, links and form controls.
- Keyboard navigation and visible keyboard-focus indicators.
- Labels, instructions and validation messages for project-enquiry fields.
- Responsive layouts for desktop, tablet and mobile screens.
- Text resizing and reflow across common viewport sizes.
- Alternative-text fields for approved photographs managed through Sanity Studio.
- Reduced or disabled animation when a visitor has enabled reduced-motion preferences.
- Descriptive page titles, headings and link text.
- Status and error messages that can be announced by assistive technologies where supported.
4. Known limitations
Some areas may not yet provide an optimal experience for every user or assistive technology. Potential limitations include:
- Cloudflare Turnstile, which is a third-party security service used on the project-enquiry form.
- External registration forms, publications, social-media platforms and linked websites that AfroBiomics does not control.
- Older or externally supplied documents that may not have complete accessibility tagging.
- Images or media supplied by third parties where an accessible equivalent is not yet available.
- Accessibility issues that may not be identified by automated testing alone.
We will prioritise reasonable corrections when a barrier is reported and can be reproduced.
5. Third-party content
Some website functions and links depend on third-party services. Their accessibility is controlled by the relevant provider.
Where a third-party barrier prevents access to important AfroBiomics information, contact us so that we can consider an alternative format or communication method.
6. Accessibility feedback
Report an accessibility problem by describing:
- The page or function affected.
- The task you were trying to complete.
- The browser, device or assistive technology used, where you are comfortable sharing it.
- The format or adjustment that would help.
7. Alternative formats
Where reasonably possible, AfroBiomics will consider requests for important public information in an alternative accessible format.
The time required will depend on the complexity, source format, copyright restrictions and intended use of the material.
8. Assessment approach
Accessibility review may include source-code checks, keyboard testing, responsive-layout review, automated testing and manual inspection of key user journeys.
Automated tools cannot identify every accessibility issue, so feedback from users remains important.
9. Statement updates
This statement will be reviewed as the website, content system, external services or accessibility practices change.
